While working as a Laser Technician at Fibertek, you will use your optical alignment, and integration skills to build advanced laser systems to push boundaries for NASA and DoD research efforts. Fibertek is looking for a Laser Technician to join our collaborative R&D product team in  Herndon, VA.  By taking on both short and long-term projects, you will use your versatility to bring uncharted laser research into the aerospace industry.

As a Laser Technician you will support the integration and test of advanced laser systems. You will work with a team of laser, mechanical and electrical engineers and assist in designing and building a unique packaged system that will be delivered for various space and military environments. You will use direct hands-on experience to develop unique laser designs through component specification, hardware assembly, and integration and test. Your manageable workload will include concurrent projects with a mix of short duration research programs and longer duration technology maturation programs. You will support the build, alignment, and performance characterization of laser resonators, amplifiers, non-linear frequency conversion modules and receiver components.
 
Requirements
To succeed in this Laser Technician role, you must hold US Citizenship and will need the below expertise and experience:

  • Associates Degree in Electro-Optics w/ a minimum of 5 years of direct hands-on experience building, aligning, optimizing, and characterizing laser systems.
  • Knowledge of the laser theory and industry best practices associated with diode pumped solid state/fiber laser systems including continuous wave lasers, Q-Switched lasers, single-frequency injection locked lasers, electrical and thermal sub-systems.
  • Ability to execute experiments validating laser system performance, document and communicate the results to the engineering staff.
