Operational Energy Engineer (R&D Navy)

We are currently seeking an experienced Engineer to provide critical support within the Navy’s Operational Energy Office. This group works to extend the operational reach of both current and future weapons systems through both R&D and an advanced understanding of effective uses of energy. This position is located at the Pentagon in Washington, DC and is 100% onsite.

  • Evaluating R&D proposals from a technical perspective in order to make solid recommendations on funding.
  • Reviewing Department of the Navy energy strategies used to identify gaps or obstructions that may prevent achievement of energy goals.
  • Assessing Technical Readiness levels from low tech up to development/prototyping and beyond.
  • Tracking and aiding in the transition of 6.3 and 6.4 level technology.

Additional Duties:
  • Manage, analyze, and synthesize information for key decision briefs and procurement actions.
  • Evaluate existing project progress against financial expenditure rates and recommend realignment of the DON portfolio when needed to continue to best serve the DON’s interests.
  • Evaluate technology proposals for technical, in addition to management, financial, and schedule risk.
  • Prepare summary briefs for SES-level recipients on Joint projects and recommendations.
  • Provide engineering, technical, and managerial direction for problem definition, analysis, requirement development, and implementation for complex systems in the engineering discipline required to meet technical requirements.
Qualifications:
  • An active secret security clearance is preferred.
  • Completed Bachelor’s degree (must be within Engineering)
  • A combination of experience to include any of the following: Power & Energy, Operational Energy, Hull & Mechanical Engineering, Propulsion, DOD Acquisition, Naval/Maritime Platforms.
  • At least 5 Years of experience with the last 2 focused within the operational DOD energy  or power distribution space.
  • Experience in working through the Engineering V-Model.
  • Experience in program analysis that includes research and analysis of various data sources (including policy and financial), critical thinking, data analytics, and developing reports and briefs.
  • Experience in model-based systems engineering (MBSE) (SysML tools).
  • Ability to deconstruct technical concepts and communicate effectively to the community at large.
  • Ability to facilitate interrelationships between policy, requirements, and resources.
  • Ability to foster external relationships to meet annual milestones for deliverables.
  • Functional proficiency with Microsoft Office suite to include Word, Power point, Excel, and Project
Preferred Qualifications:
  • MS in Mechanical, Electrical, or Marine Engineering, or related technical field.
  • Experience with VAMOSC, NEURS, and ADVANA
  • Experience in technology integration for surface combatants and amphibious ships.
  • Experience in technology integration for ground weapons systems and platforms.
