Oracle DBA

The Oracle DBA works with and provides expertise in Oracle database technologies, methodologies, data management and database administration tools to provide development, support, consultation and technical guidance within a multi-tiered environment. The Database Administrator will support numerous high performance databases to insure reliability and efficiency. The DBA will play a critical role in design, build, implementation, upgrade and optimization of all client schemas and databases.
Job Duties:
  • Solves problems submitted by the functional SMEs, including maintaining user privileges, modifying the status of Ship Change Documents (SCD), performing database changes that cannot be handled through the application software, and responding to complex help desk tickets that functional SMEs cannot resolve.
  • Maintains all SQL Server and Oracle databases including setup, configuration, administration, tuning, trouble-shooting, data manipulation and backups.
  • May work closely with software developers performing database design, database architecture, SQL programming, consultation and technical guidance with SQL server and Oracle databases.
  • Performs requirements gathering, business design, technical design, development, testing, implementation, writing reliable and efficient code, queries, stored procedures, cursors, triggers and scripting in SQL Server and Oracle.
  • Recommends hardware configurations as they pertain to database performance and high availability.
  • Performs database performance monitoring and tuning, including advanced skills in the effective use of database tools such as query analyzer.
  • Responsible for the organization, security and protection of the databases and data.
  • Provides daily operational activities such as backups/restores, application troubleshooting, log monitoring, adds, moves and changes.
  • Works with other Technology Team members, Product Networking and Tech Support for any application development, network plans, trouble-shooting, implementations and changes on the database servers
  • Participates in the on call production support rotation and may occasionally be required to do work at the office during non-business or late night hours.
  • Participates in projects as needed.
  • Design/implement backup and recovery solutions.
  • Provide assistance to associates to resolve technical issues, document and implement best practices for the database environments.
  • Establish standards, controls and procedures to ensure data integrity and security
  • Perform capacity planning and projection for future growths.
  • 5-7 years (with Masters) or 8-10 years (with Bachelor’s) of Information Technology experience with a consisting of 2 years of application development experience
  • Extensive experience in developing Oracle DML, PL/SQL, triggers, stored procedures and web services; experience with bi-directional remote database updates.
  • Experience assisting an application development team with database issues.
  • Experience providing Oracle database design and system architecture support.
  • Experience utilizing large data movement tools. Excellent communication skills.
  • Must have experience in Red Hat LINUX Administration
  • Must be proficient with Oracle 11g and 12c databases, Oracle database tools, and other database tools required, such as TOAD.
Desired skills and Experience:
  • Experience working with the US Navy a plus
  • Experience with the NAVSEA NDE database and all its applications a plus
  • Experience in software applications development a plus
  • Success using any Agile Methodology a plus
Bachelor’s Degree with 8-10 years’ experience or
Master’s Degree with 5-7 years’ experience
Required Certifications:
Oracle Security Plus certification
Oracle Certified Database Administrator
Active Top Secret (or higher) clearance
